Born at Footscray, Victoria. Enlisted 21-23 June 1916 age 18, labourer. Nok father, Richard Barnes of Perth-Fremantle Road, Cottesloe. Embarked at Fremantle 9 November 1916 per A8 Argyllshire. He saw service in France and was wounded in action 10 November 1917. He rejoined his unit in December 1917. RTA December 1919. Service medals: BWM and VM.
