Born at County Down, North Ireland, Methodist. Enlisted 13 January 1915 age 21, warehouseman. Nok father, Mr J. S. Bell, Wyndalia, Keane St, (also given as in Evans St,) Cottesloe. Embarked at Fremantle 26 April 1915 per A20 Hororata. Served at Gallipoli in July, August and September 1915. Killed in action on 9 August 1916 at Hassanein, Suez Canal Zone. Grave site a point about 300 yards NW from Hod-el-Fatir. Interred at Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt. Inventory of effects: 1 scarf, 1 military book, 1 dictionary, piece of stone, buttons, badges, numerals, piece of shell, ammunition pouch, letters, photos, post cards, newspaper cuttings, Testament, plume, notebook, 1 field service pocket book. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM.
