Born Cheltenham Victoria. Enlisted 2 August 1915 age 21, stockman. Nok father, Ben Copely of Forrest St, Cottesloe. Embarked per A2 Geelong to Suez in December 1915 and transferred to No 8 Australian Machine Gun Company. Served in the Middle East and France. Died of wounds at Etaphan Lazarett, Valencienne, France 20 July 1916 whilst a prisoner of war. Buried in the War Cemetery at Valenciennes France, Plot 4, Row D, Grave 25. Service medals: 1914-15 Star, BMW and VM.
