Born in Sussex, England, CoE. Enlisted 26 June 1916 age 35, gardener. Nok wife, Emily Hartfield, Grant St, Cottesloe. Embarked at Fremantle per A23 Suffolk. Wounded in action in France on 7 April 1917. Hospitalised in England. Returned to his Unit in Belgium 6 September 1917 and killed in action 12 October 1917. Buried at Kroodsinde, Belgium. Effects returned his wife and son Stanley Thomas Hartfield were letters, photo wallet, photos, religious book, silver wrist watch and strap, wallet and a Testament. Service medals: BWM and VM.
