Born at Kaniva, Victoria, CoE. Enlisted 17 August 1914 age 27, butcher. Nok mother, Mrs J. H. Higgs of Duke St, West Northam, WA. Embarked at Fremantle 2 November 1914 per A11 Ascanius. Wounded to the chest at Gallipoli on 31 July 1915 and invalided to Australia in September 1915 per A72 Beltana and discharged 19 July 1916. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM. When he received his pension his address was Forrest St, Cottesloe. John Higgs died 1 September 1966. The following year his widow was residing at Northam.
