** MM 10844 Sapper 3rd Division Signal Coy.

Born at Footscray, Victoria, Methodist.  Enlisted 12 October 1915 age 23, electrician.  Nok father, Jack Harry James of Leake St, Cottesloe.  Embarked at Melbourne 27 May 1916 per A11 Ascanius.  In France wounded in the back and right arm 4 October 1917.   Awarded Military Medal ‘for conspicuous ability and coolness on the nights of 28 and 29 January 1917’. Military Medal citation at: Commonwealth of Australia Gazette 21 August 1917, p. 1782, position 14.  London Gazette 12 March 1917, p. 2485, position 11.  RTA June 1919 and discharged 21 September 1919. Service medals and award: MM, 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM.
