Born at Footscray, Victoria, Methodist. Enlisted 12 October 1915 age 23, electrician. Nok father, Jack Harry James of Leake St, Cottesloe. Embarked at Melbourne 27 May 1916 per A11 Ascanius. In France wounded in the back and right arm 4 October 1917. Awarded Military Medal ‘for conspicuous ability and coolness on the nights of 28 and 29 January 1917’.
