Lindner, Robert

* 389 2nd Ref/5th Cycle Corp.

Born at Cottesloe, Congregational. An ex-pupil at Cottesloe School.  Enlisted 3 November 1915, age 18, clerk. Nok parents, Charles and Annie Lindner, of Gill St, Cottesloe Beach. Embarked at Fremantle 18 July 1916 per A48 Seang Bee. While serving in Belgium he was reported missing on 4 October 1017 and later recorded as killed in action. Memorial at Ypres Town Cemetery and extension, Ypres Menin Gate near the junction of Zonneboke and Menin Road, Belgium. Service medals: 1914-15 Star, BWM and VM.  Statement by Pte J. Thompson 518: “On 4 October 1917 at Zonnebeke I went into line to attack with Pte Lindner, we reached the position of assembly together. It was dark at the time and the enemy were heavily shelling our position, we were ordered to scatter and get into shell holes.  That was the last I saw of Pte Lindner.”
