Matthews, Francis

Born at Braidwood, NSW, CoE. Enlisted at Perth 17 August 1914 while a teacher at Cottesloe Primary School. His parents were William and Ellen Matthews, 53 Clancy St, Boulder, WA. Matthews embarked for Dardanelles in 1915 and was killed in action at Gallipoli 3 May 1915. Buried at Artillery Road East Cemetery, Anzac, about 1100 yards south east of Anzac Cove. The body was exhumed and re-interred at Gallipoli 22 Shell Green Cemetery, Anzac, south of Anzac Cove, Artillery Road. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM.
