** 1376 Pte 4th Field Ambulance.

Born London, England CoE.  Enlisted 10 September 1914 age 19, labourer.  Nok father, W.A. Mercer of Millington, 42 Newstead Road Lee, Kent, England.  Embarked at Fremantle 8 February 1915 per A47 Mashobra.  Wounded at Gallipoli in the right breast on unspecified date. Invalided to Australia in March 1916 per A11 Ascanius. Service medals:  1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM. His 1916 pension card gives his address as c/o Mr Piper, Irvine St, Cottesloe and in 1917 as Soldier’s Institute of Perth.  A 1930 letter was addressed to him at 37 Russell St, South Fremantle.  A statutory declaration made in 1941 states that he was travelling for an insurance company in 1925 and was boarding in Northam, having left his family in Fremantle with parents-in-law when his discharge document had disappeared.  In 1941 his address was Cravenhurst, Kenwick, WA.
