Moore, Reginald Johnstone

* 138 Sgt 10th Light Horse Regiment.

Born at Dongara, W.A. Enlisted 5 December 1914 age 36, grazier.  Nok parents, Samuel Joseph Fortescue Moore and Eliza Mary Moore of Cliff House, Claremont. Reginald’s sister, Mrs Daisy Florence Savage, lived at  56 Johnston St, Cottesloe.  Embarked at Fremantle 8 February 1915 per A 47 Mashobra. No date for the embarkation from Australia but embarked for Gallipoli 16 May 1915 and killed in action 7 August 1915. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM.  Reginald was a former Hale School student. His father Samuel Moore was a prominent Western Australian; an unsuccessful candidate for the Senate in 1903 and MLA for Irwin 1904-1914. After receiving news of his son’s death he wrote, on 29 September 1915, asking that his son’s £25 horse be returned to Australia or sold in Egypt. Most of the 6100 horses destined for Gallipoli remained in Egypt.
