Born at Beechworth, Victoria, CoE. Enlisted 16 July 1915 age 20, woodman. Nok mother, Emily Morgan of Battle St, Cottesloe Beach. Embarked at Adelaide 18 November 1915 per A2 Geelong. Served in France 1916 and in December 1916 suffered trench feet resulting from prolonged standing in muddy trenches and as a possible consequence, his right foot was amputated. He was invalided to UK and later RTA in July 1917 per Karoola for discharge. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM.
