Embarked at Fremantle 9 August 1916 per A28 Miltiades. Wounded in action in France 8-9 May 1918. RTA January 1919 per Delta. On 9 June 1919 Herbert signed on for further Home Service in the army. Service medals: BWM and VM. Ocean Beach (29th) Troop Boy Scouts Honour Roll.
