Born at Chatham, England, enlisted at Fremantle 30 April 1917, grocer’s assistant. Nok parents, James William Tanner and Isabel Tanner of Caversham Guildford, Ernest’s address at the time of his enlistment were c/o Mr F Jacobs, Boreham St, Cottesloe. Embarked at Albany 24 July 1917 per A16 Port Melbourne. Killed in action in France  10 June 1918  and buried Beacon Cemetery, Sailly-Laurette, France, Plot 2 Row E Grave 9,  about 1500 yards WSW of  Malane Crescent. Service medals: BMW and VM.
