Born at Richmond Victoria, Presbyterian. Enlisted 15 March 1916 at Melbourne age 27, blacksmith. Nok father, John Thomas Briggs Loma St, Cottesloe and later that of his widow, Ethel Hutchins Briggs residing at 124 Pakington St, Kew Victoria. Embarked at Melbourne on 25 May 1916 per A11 Ascanius. He died of bronchia-pneumonia in the 3rd Australian General Hospital France on 10 November 1918, the day before the Armistice was declared. He was buried at Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension, France, Plot 5 Row B No 38. Service medals: BWM, and VM.
