Born at Ten Mile, Victoria, CoE. Previously served with a Light Horse unit in Victoria. Enlisted 22 January 1915, age 31, farmer. Nok parents dead, eldest brother, Robert Torrens Browne of Cottesloe, followed by Viking House, William St, Perth and then Railway St, Cottesloe. Embarked at Fremantle 19 April 1915 per A8 Argyllshire. Killed in action at Hill 60, Gallipoli Peninsula about 27 August 1915 and lies in an unknown grave, Memorialised Lone Pine Memorial panel 52. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM. Mentioned in despatches for conspicuous service cited in the London Gazette 29455 28 January 1916. George’s sole effects sent to his brother were: clothes, 1 brush, 1 cheque book, 1 book and 2 knives.
