Born at Cottesloe, RC. Enlisted 26 July 1915 age 18, student. Nok father, Francis Connor, Cottesloe Beach (later address is Parliament House). Embarked at Fremantle per A24 Benalla, 1 November 1915 and was in Cairo Hospital in May 1916. Being informed of his son’s illness and perhaps motivated by his own impending death, Francis Connor appealed to Senator Pearce for his son’s return. Hugh was invalided to Australia in July 1916, the month his father died. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM. Francis Connor, born at Newry, Ireland in 1857 was a well known pastoralist in the East Kimberley and the Northern Territory. He was partner of the Connor, Doherty, Durack Company and MLA for the East Kimberley 1893-1904; and for the Kimberley 1904-1905 and MLC North Province 1906-1916.
