Duff, James Andrew

Born on 29 January 1889, Presbyterian, and joined the Education Department in 1907 as a student at the Normal School and was a teaching monitor at Cottesloe School in 1909. Enlisted in June 1917 age 24. Nok his father, Peter Duff residing at Bruce St, North Fremantle. Duff embarked in June 1918 per SS Port Darwin and saw service in UK and France. In 1919 he was given leave to attend classes at the Edinburgh Provincial Learning Centre. For a time he was the acting director of education for his unit in the UK. On board the ship returning to Fremantle, he taught English and arithmetic to those willing to take part. He retired from teaching in 1957 when his address was 35 Hamilton St, East Fremantle. Service medals: BWM and VM.
