Born at North Melbourne, RC. Enlisted 4 February 1916 at Perth, age 22. Nok mother, Jessie W. Elphick of Broome St, Cottesloe and later at Roberts Rd, Subiaco. Father deceased c1910. Brother of Charles Vernon Elphick. Sent to Melbourne for training and embarked for Gallipoli on 20 May 1916 per A7 Medic. He served in France and was wounded in Belgium on 25 September 1917 and died next day. Buried in Poperinghe (now Poperinge) east of Ypres, Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium, Plot 23 Row C No 15. Service medals: BMW and VM. Personal effects: photos, letters, cards, notebook, wallet, book of poems, 2 metal rings, scissors, knife, two 50 centime notes and 5 coins. His mother was to receive a military pension of 40 shillings per fortnight.
