Born at Footscray, Victoria, RC. Enlisted 15 August 1914 age 27, building scaffolder. Nok wife, Rose Teresa Falla of Athelstan St and later at Geraldine St, Cottesloe. Embarked at Fremantle 2 November 1914 per A11 Ascanius. Wounded at Gallipoli on 19 May 1915 and again on 1 August 1915 to the chest and concussion. RTA in March 1916 for discharge in April as an undesirable soldier. He left Western Australia to enlist elsewhere, succeeding 17 July 1917 with an assignment to the 12/2nd Pioneers. He embarked at Melbourne on 30 October 1917 per A50 Itonus. Transferred to 32nd Battalion and then to the 48th Battalion and served in France 1918-19. RTA in April 1919 and discharged on 20 June 1919. Service medals:1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM.
