Born at Kingston Ireland, Church of Ireland. Enlisted 12 July 1915 age 29, salesman. Nok wife, Elsie and daughter Doreen of Teran, Wentworth St, Cottesloe. Embarked at Adelaide 14 September 1915 per Ballarat. Served in the Middle East and was killed in action in France on 6 August 1916. Grave is at Villers-Bretonneux Memorial MR26 Part II, C-F. Elsie received a widow’s pension of 53 shillings and 9 pence per fortnight. Service medals: 1914-15 Star, VM and BWM. Note: dates of enlistment and embarkation differ in parts of the record. In June 1918 Elsie Foster, receiving none of her husband’s effects, made enquiries, ‘I would be thankful to receive any small thing belonging to my brave soldier husband to keep in memory of him, no matter how small.’
