Franklyn, John William

* MID 2nd Lieut 11th Bn.

Born at Subiaco in 1897, RC. Enlisted 10th December 1914 age 18, draper. Nok his parents, Edward Ernest Franklyn and Lily Franklyn of Fremantle Road Cottesloe. Embarked at Fremantle 29 April 1915 per A20 Hororata. He was wounded at Gallipoli on 6 August 1915 and died of wounds on board the hospital ship Sicilia and buried at sea. Memorial at Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey. His mother’s letter requesting his effects reads, ‘anything relating to my late much loved son are most sacred treasures.’ Personal effects: gold locket, whistle, wrist watch and two stars.
