Born at Cottesloe, CoE. Enlisted 7 May 1917 age 18, student. Nok father, Walter Gale 280 Walsh St, South Yarra. Served five years with the Melbourne Grammar School Cadets. Embarked at Sydney per A68 Anchises, 8 August 1917. In July 1918 he was selected for aviation instruction with the Australian Flying Corp. and graduated as a Flying Officer, 2nd Lieut. promoted to Lieutenant 11 February 1919. RTA 1919. Service medals: BWM and VM. Cottesloe and district Honour Rolls.
