Born at Yalgoo, WA. Methodist. Enlisted 7 August 1916 age 19, farmhand. Nok father, Charles Gilbert, Greenough, WA, later wife, E. M. Gilbert, 18 Grosvenor Tce, Camberwell Gate, London. Embarked at Fremantle 9 November 1916 per A8 Argyllshire. Served in France. Wounded in action in France 10 October 1917, gassed and gunshot wound to head and leg. RTA 11 December 1918 per Saxon. Service medals: BWM and VM. Cottesloe and district Honour Rolls.
