Born at Ballarat, Victoria, RC. Enlisted 18 October 1915 age 38, miner tool sharpener. Nok wife, Emily Rose Hearn of Day Dawn, WA. And later at Gill St, Cottesloe. Embarked at Fremantle 17 January 1916 per A 30 Borda. Served in France 1916-1918 and was wounded in the right leg and chin on 5 October 1918. RTA January 1919 per Delta and discharged 21 April 1919. Service medals: BWM and VM. The West Australian, 27 August 1917, records the death of Hearn’s only son, nine year-old Sydney Alexander, on 25 August 1917 at Gill St, Cottesloe while his father was on active service. There was also a 1919 letter to a Mrs Hearn of Kings St, Cottesloe Beach.
