Hemy, Claude Doughty

** 1827 Gunner 3rd Field Artillery Brigade.

Born at Newcastle-on-Tyne England, RC.  Enlisted 17 August 1914 age 35, motor mechanic.  Nok (relationship not given) Mrs S Hemy of  Mary St, Fremantle.  Embarked at Brisbane on 3 October 1914 per A7 Medic.  Wounded by shrapnel at Gallipoli 2 August 1915 resulting in partial paralysis in right arm. RTA June 1916 per A15 Port Sydney as invalid for discharge and died 27 November 1934. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM. An item in The West Australian 16 February 1915 states: ‘A correspondent at Osborne Park sends an interesting extract from an English paper containing portraits of ten sons and nephews of Madame Hemy, of Cottesloe Beach, who are serving with the colours. Another member of the family is Sergeant Claude Hemy, of the Western Australian Artillery, who is at present on service in Egypt.’
