Hoffman, Wolfe

2224 16th Bn. Military Police and then 9th Field Ambulance.

Born near Podol Russia, Jewish. Naturalised citizen. Enlisted 20 March 1915 age 23 labourer. Nok father at Podol an historic region on the outskirts of the Ukraine city Kyiv (Kiev). Embarked at Fremantle 25 June 1915 per A 62 Wandilla.  Served at Gallipoli, the Middle East, England and France. RTA 4 December 1915. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM. Hoffman arrived at Fremantle in 1910 per Scharnhorst and appears to have established the Hoffman timber mill at Jarradale WA. After the war he went to Melbourne where, in 1920, he married Selamis (nee not given) Hoffman.  In 1939 he was a noted manufacturer and distributor of ladies blouses.  He served in WW2 as an attesting officer. He died 2 May 1976.
