Born South Melbourne Victoria in 1882, CoE. Enlisted 1 June 1917 age 35, mechanical engineer at the Albany General Machine Shop. Nok his father, Charles Henry Iffla then residing at 599 Edmondson St, Beaconsfield. His weight (120 kilos) and poor health stalled his departure overseas. He was assigned to the Moore Park engineering training camp in New South Wales. In a letter dated 6 August 1917, he applied for a discharge citing the effects of ten years living in the tropics and Hong Kong. His application was accepted. Alexander died of natural causes in 1920.
