Born on 26 June 1879 Shetland Islands, Scotland. CoE. Enlisted 17 September 1914 age 35, miner. Nok mother, Mary Irvine of Shetland Islands, Scotland. Embarked at Fremantle 2 November 1914 per A11 Ascanius. Served Gallipoli in 1915 and in France 1916-17. Wounded at Gallipoli three times; first, 25/30 April 1915, second to the arm 28 July 1915 and a third time 10 August 1915, with wounds to the back and chest. Served in France where he was accidentally injured (not on military duty) on 30 July 1917 and suffered contusions to the back, abrasions to the head, with fractured ribs penetrating a lung and scapula. Invalided to England August 1917. RTA 31 October 1917 and discharged 17 January1918. Cottesloe and district Honour Rolls.
