Newbury, William Herbert

Born at Delamere, Sth Aust. Enlisted 24 August 1914 while holidaying in NSW, age 25, clerk. Nok mother, Mrs F Newbury, Mundaring, WA. with his sister Mrs C. J. Ellershaw at Glyde St, Cottesloe Beach. Departed from NSW 5 April 1915 per Derflinger to join the Middle East Forces. He was reported missing in action at Gallipoli between 6 – 8 August 1915 and declared killed in action following a court of inquiry on 5 June 1916. Lone Pine Panel 20. 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM. When William’s father retired from teaching in 1904, he lived for a while at Cottesloe. William’s mother died at Mundaring 11 August 1918 age 72 and his father died the following day age 92.
