Born at Broken Hill, NSW. Methodist. Enlisted 10 May 1915 age 21, labourer. Nok father, William John Opie, Jackson St, North Fremantle. Embarked at Fremantle 6 June 1915 per A2 Geelong. Admitted to hospital in London after becoming ill in Egypt and Gallipoli. RTA 19 January 1916 per A16 Star of Victoria. Discharged 28 April 1916 due to dysentery and asthma. He re-enlisted on 25 September 1916 as 6627 Pte 28th Bn. age 22. Nok mother, Amelia Opie, Jackson St, North Fremantle later changed to father, Davies Road, Claremont. Embarked at Fremantle 29 January 1917 per A28 Miltiades. Served in France and killed in action in Belgium 20 September 1917. Memorial: Menin Gate. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM.
