Born at North Fremantle, WA. CoE. Enlisted 4 August 1915 age 22. Embarked at Fremantle 13 October 1915 per A32 Themistocles. Served in France where he was wounded in action on 31 May 1916 and again on 11 June 1918, the latter resulting in the amputation of his right arm. RTA 23 September 1918 per A54 Runic. Attempted a second enlistment on 7 January 1919, giving his occupation as barman. Nok mother, Margaret Elizabeth Payne of Frederick St, North Fremantle. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM.
