Born at Neath, Wales, Methodist. Enlisted 9 August 1915 age 27, salesman. Nok father, Vines Payne, Neath, South Wales. Embarked at Fremantle 22 November 1915 per RMS Mongolia. Served in England and in France and suffered from shell shock. RTA February 1918 for a medical discharge. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM. Cottesloe Honour Rolls. Note: Only person of that name and initials on the Australian National Archive’s listing. In 1926 his address was 122 Barren St, Newtown, Sydney.
