Born at Bendigo Victoria, Presbyterian. Enlisted 21 August 1915 age 20, motor mechanic. Nok father, William Rail of Chamberlain St, Cottesloe and later Nok his wife, Fanny Rail, at his father’s Cottesloe address and then at 44 Ellen St, Fremantle. Embarked at Fremantle 2 November 1915 per A38 Ulysses. At the Suez he was hospitalised with diphtheria in January 1916 and chronic rheumatism. RTA A61 Kanowna May 1916 for discharge. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM.
