Born at Grafton NSW, CoE. Enlisted 4 December 1916 age 24, salesman, Nok father, John Arthur Rowsell, C/- Mrs Black of Grant St, Osborne (Claremont/Swanbourne) WA. Embarked at Fremantle 29 January 1917 per A28 Miltiades. In France in June 1917 he suffered a dislocated shoulder. Given two blue chevrons for time served at the front. Transferred to the 5th Australian Broad Gauge Rail Operations Division and served the remainder of the war in England. RTA in March 1919. Service medals: BMW and VM. Jack Rowsell’s name was brought to the notice of the Secretary of State for War for valuable services rendered in connection with the war.’ (D.O. 194/202 1919). On 28th July 1959 John Rowsell later resided at 73 Tyrrell St, Nedlands.
