Born at Kensington, Sth Aust. CoE.   Enlisted 24 May 1915 age 29, carpenter.  Nok father, John Ruthven of Norwood, Sth Aust.  Embarked at Fremantle 29 June 1915 per A11 Ascanius. Wounded to the ankle at Gallipoli on 28 September 1915 and again with an accidental hand grenade wound resulting in amputation of his hand in France on 22 April 1916. RTA November 1916 per A18 Wiltshire and discharged 10 March 1917.   Service medals: 1914-1915 StaFr, BWM and VM. A pension slip dated 22 September 1917 places George Ruthven at Ravenhurst, Napier St, Cottesloe. His brother Jack Ruthven 3680 enlisted 14 August 1917.
