Smith, Albert Cecil

Born at Geraldton, CoE.  May have attended Cottesloe Primary School. Enlisted at Perth 8 September 1915 age 21, tin smith. Nok father, Thomas Andrew Smith 34 Holland St, East Fremantle and later of Hastings Villa Keane St, Cottesloe Beach. Embarked Fremantle 2 November 1915 per A38 Ulysses. He served in the Middle East and then in France where he was missing in action during the battle of Mouquet Farm on 15 August 1916 and his death was later confirmed. Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM. A letter dated August 1921 from a Major at base records, informed Albert’s father that all efforts to establish his son’s resting place had failed and requested on loan, any letters that may assist with the search. Ellen Smith replied on 22 August 1921 that Albert had two brothers in the army; No 1306 A.W.F. Smith in the Army Medical Services and No 62870 R. Smith General Service Reinforcements.
