Enlisted 3 March 1917 age 23, a marine steward and station hand. Nok was given as Sara Rankin of 144 Parry St, East Perth. He enlisted under the name of Thomas Munton. Richard served in France and, in a declaration signed on 30 November 1918, he admitted his correct name was Richard George Sparkman. RTA per Port Denison in September 1919. On his original enlistment form, dated 3 March 1917, his next of kin is his mother, Sarah Rankin of Railway Parade Maylands. Service medals: BWM and VM. Note: Only four soldiers had the name Sparkman and two of these had the initial R. The other was Reginald Sparkman who gave his Nok in Victoria. Cottesloe School Honour Roll.
