Born at Birkenhead, Cheshire, England, CoE. Enlisted 9 September 1915 age 38, farmer. Nok father, Phillip Henry Tanner of Kununoppin, WA. Embarked at Fremantle 17 January 1916 per A30 Borda. Wounded in the face in France 22-25 July 1916. RTA for discharge due to defective vision and general debility in May 1917 per A33 Ayrshire. Promoted to Sgt and demobilised in January 1920. Service medals: BWM and VM. Post Office Directories 1930, 1935 list Thomas Tanner as a farmer in Kununoppin. Cottesloe and district Honour Rolls.
