Born at Cottesloe, Congregational. Enlisted 18 July 1916 age 18, barman. Nok father, Mr Thomas of Bunbury and later at North Perth. Embarked at Fremantle 2 November 1916 per A8 Argyllshire. Served in France and RTA 12 July 1919. Thomas was awarded a Military Medal in 1917. The citation reads: ‘For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. At the attack on Westhoek Ridge on 20 September 1917, he was acting as runner for his Company commander and when his officer was wounded during an advance he carried him on his back to the Dressing Station. He returned to the line and worked as a stretcher bearer doing most valuable work and setting a fine example to all by his cheery manner.’ Cottesloe and district Honour Rolls.
