Born on 3 May 1886 at Kogarah, NSW, CoE. Joined the Education Department in 1901 and was Deputy Head Teacher at Cottesloe School in 1911. He enlisted at Albany 1 May 1916 and embarked on 29 December per A34 Persic from Fremantle to England where he was assigned to the AIF Education Section. He saw service in France where he was wounded in the left foot and RTA 19 June 1919 on A28 Miltiades. Resumed teaching at Brunswick Junction in 1919. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM.
