Born at Northam, WA, CoE. Enlisted 29 January 1917 age 26, shearer. Nok parents Edward Western of Goomalling and later his mother, Jessie Worker Western. Trained with the AIF at Rockingham Camp and embarked at Fremantle 29 June 1917 per A30 Borda. Killed in action in France 25 April 1918. No details in his service records to indicate where he was killed and where he was buried. Effects: one sealed parcel containing a dictionary, testament and 1 notebook. Added later, 1 wallet, photos, playing cards and a letter. Service medals: BWM and VM. Cottesloe and district Honour Rolls.
