Born at Roebourne WA, CoE. Enlisted 9 March 1915 age 20, station hand. Nok mother, Mrs W.G. Withnell of Irvine St, Cottesloe Beach. Embarked at Melbourne 12 November 1915 per A67 Orsova (elsewhere 22 May 1915). Served in France 1916-1917 and in Belgium 1918. RTA March 1919 per Kildonian Castle. Service medals: 1914-1915 Star, BWM and VM.
